How it Works
During the day, solar panels capture sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity through photovoltaic cells. This process involves exciting electrons in the semiconductor material within the panels, generating an electrical current. The DC electricity then flows to an inverter, which transforms it into alternating current (AC), the type used to power your home’s appliances and electrical systems. Excess energy produced can be stored in batteries for later use or sent back to the grid.
At night, the solar panels no longer produce electricity due to the lack of sunlight. Consequently, the inverter ceases to operate since there’s no DC input to convert. Your home then relies on stored battery power or draws electricity from the grid to meet its needs. This seamless transition ensures that your energy supply remains consistent, regardless of the time of day. Solar panels and inverters work together to efficiently harness and manage solar energy while adapting to the natural day-night cycle.
